But only 10 to 15% of the energy locked up in the cells of the grass can be converted by herbivores such as the zebra and so to get the amount of nourishment they need the animals have to spend much of the day grazing. Zebras are preyed upon by carnivores such as lions. The lionesses hunt together in order to bring down and kill and adult zebra. One kill will provide sufficient food for the pride for several days.
